List of conditions

In 1979, the WHO (World Health Organisation) compiled a list of conditions for which

acupuncture can be used as a cure. A revised version followed in 2003.

In 2017, two Australian researchers published a large literature review assessing

the effectiveness of acupuncture.

Below you will find the indications for which acupuncture can be used.

Addictions

Smoking addiction, food addiction, alcohol addiction, drug addiction

Allergies

For, among others: food, dust mites, pets, pollen

Complaints in children

Cough, cold, asthma, bronchitis, strep throat, intestinal complaints, abdominal pain, bedwetting, sleeping problems, teething, eczema, earache/inflammation

Eyes
 

Inflamed eyes, itchy eyes, watery eyes, dry eyes, burning eyes, blurred or spotty vision, visual impairment

Head

Headache, migraine, localized hair loss, facial pain, dizziness (e.g. Ménière), heaviness in the head

Joints

Stiffness, pain complaints, movement limitations, osteoarthritis, rheumatic diseases, joint inflammation, bursitis, muscle or tendon (pain) complaints, strength reduction, vibrations, cramps, neck and back complaints, tennis elbow, fibromyalgia, sprains, (sports) injuries, recovery after operations

Mental Disorders

Sleep disturbances, many dreams, hyperventilation, restlessness, anxiety, fainting, compulsive crying or laughing, depression, startle easily, forgetfulness, anorexia nervosa, listlessness, lack of energy, general weakness, overstrain, stress, burnout

Nose, throat, ears

(Chronic) nose cold, sinus infection, sinus infection, allergic cold, hay fever, earache or ear infection, ringing in the ears or tinnitus, certain cases of deafness, cough, hoarseness, sore throat, speech problems, lump in the throat gum problems, toothache, canker sores, bad breath, bitter taste in the mouth, dry mouth, increased salivation, cold sore

Skin

Sweating problems, itching, dry skin, eczema, acne, cold sores, shingles, psoriasis, boils, ulcers

Airways

(Chronic) cold, poor immune system, shortness of breath, asthma, bronchitis, hyperventilation

Chest

Chest tension, chest fullness, chest pain, palpitations

Digestion

Nausea, poor appetite, vomiting, heartburn, belching or burping, stomach pain, biliary disorders, diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal cramps, abdominal rumbling, abdominal pain, abdominal distention, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), hemorrhoids

Gynecology

Menstrual complaints, premenstrual complaints (PMS), menopausal complaints, tense and painful breasts, certain forms of reduced fertility, white discharge (leukorrhea), guidance of IUI/IVF/ICSI trajectory

Internal complaints

Anemia, coldness, circulation problems, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, thyroid disorders, diabetes, overweight

Limbs

Cold extremities, heaviness, fluid retention (oedema)

Nervous System

Hernia, numbness, inflammation of the nerves/pain (neuralgia), such as:- intercostal neuralgia (nerve pain between the ribs)- sciatica, sciatica-neuralgia after shingles- facial pain, trigeminal neuralgia consequences of whiplash (pain, dizziness, fatigue, loss of concentration), epilepsy, consequences of CVA (cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral infarction)

Pregnancy

Nausea, acid reflux, breech presentation, induce labor, postpartum pain, stimulate breastfeeding, mastitis

Urinary Tract

Urinary tract infection, incontinence, bladder or kidney stones, impotence, impaired fertility, premature or nocturnal ejaculation, prostate complaints
